Im making a rpg just making the storyline and quests right now ( mods and admin this is not me trying to adcertise a game )
I don't make games, but I write business apps.
It is hard to make get it into the "A" grade or top-notch app.
It is very hard to create a business app. everyone uses.
Generally, for software, it is skill of the developers who are developing your product which will influence the overall product quality. You need to hire at least top 10% software developers to assist you. Developers who can find out what caused your game to crash or hang. Developers who can take a game-engine, put scripts and quest markers in-place correctly. Get the finite state engine (Finite State Machine or Flying Spaghetti Monster ) correct for combat. Make correct logics for quests, bag, loots, experience points and all aspects of the game.
An average software product takes 6 months - 1 year to develop with maintenance spanning a decade.
The best part is when you write a top-notch App. and get good reviews, lots of customers buying (you lose customers when they die or retire), support promptly handles issues.
The worst part is when you get negative reviews, nobody buys your game, poor sales, trolling on forums, ran out of money, had to sell your house to pay for that loan.
Not all games are successful. Even if you invested a hundred grand, can you manage to recuperate your initial investment?
Food for thought.
